The OCIA is the process by which non baptized adults are received into the Catholic Church. Baptized adults of other Christian denominations who wish to join the Catholic Church are not again baptized, but are received into the Church through Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist. Adults baptized in the Catholic Church can complete their initiation into the Church by receiving Confirmation. The stages of the OCIA may be adapted to meet their needs.
The OCIA can also serve as a focus for ongoing conversion for all members of the Catholic Church. As Catholics see new catechumen and candidates learning about our Catholic Tradition, they are encouraged to study their faith. As they participate in the liturgical ceremonies welcoming new members, they can renew their own commitment to Christ.
If you know of someone who would be interested in becoming Catholic, please call the Rectory or Deacon George Barletta at 724-0080.
Order of Christian Initiation of Adults Volunteers/Support
Volunteers play an integral part in our program. OCIA has a core team that assists the director in various ways including: organizing materials and paperwork, working with the candidates and catechumens, setting up the room and providing snacks and drinks. We also need volunteers who would like to be sponsors to those who wish to become Catholic. If you believe that is God is calling you to evangelization and your are interested in volunteering your time and talent in OCIA, call Deacon George Barletta 724-0080 or [email protected].
